What is Port Forwarding?

Port Forwarding allows remote computers (for example, computers on the Internet) to connect to a specific computer or service within a private local-area network (LAN computer).  The benefits of this feature are typically deep in a network landscape and related to how different computers on and off your network can communicate and share information.
